Online counselling is a way of accessing therapy using a video platform. When you contact me, I'll send an appointment with a video link at a time that suits you, and we'll meet for an initial discussion. If you decide to continue, we'll meet regularly on the same video link, which you'll receive by email invite. It helps to have a quiet space where you won't be overheard or interrupted, along with a good internet connection and a reliable camera and microphone. If our connection is ever cut, I will contact you by telephone to make sure you are safe.
Yes. My own personal experience of being a client is that I found online counselling accessible and therapeutically rewarding. It can be very helpful for a number of presentations, though some may be unsuitable for online counselling, including severe mental health difficulties, current or ongoing domestic abuse, self-harm, and active drug or alcohol addiction, as these could carry risks that aren't always apparent online.
Yes. As will be discussed in the contract, there are limits to confidentiality: standard limits relating to the safeguarding of adults and children, including risk of harm to self or others, as well as some legal requirements to breach confidentiality. As a professional counsellor, to ensure I'm working to best practice, I discuss my casework with a clinical supervisor; however, personally identifiable information is never disclosed.
Yes. I work with both trainee and qualified counsellors, offering clinical supervision using the Seven-Eyed Model, informed by the Integrative Developmental Model (IDM). I work relationally to support supervisees in developing their own internal supervisor, helping them work safely and effectively with their clients.
Integrative counselling means I don't work from just one fixed model. At the core is a person-centred approach: I won't advise or diagnose, but create a safe space where you feel heard and understood, so you can build your own capacity to make changes. Where it helps, I also draw on other approaches, like CBT, to help you identify patterns you've learned and find ways to unlearn them.
You can use the contact form on the website or email me directly. You'll receive a response within 24 hours, and I'll reply using the same method you contacted me by. You can book a free initial consultation, an opportunity to meet online, discuss what's bringing you to therapy, and find out whether I'm the right fit for you. If you decide not to proceed with me afterwards, I can help point you towards other reputable therapists. There's no obligation.
I recognise and welcome that not everyone is the same. I respect the wide variety of gender identities and sexual orientations, without judgement and with understanding. I see you for who you are and allow you to explore your identity at your own pace. I use inclusive language and recognise how gender and sexual orientation intersect with, and are affected by, other differences and life experiences.
Working in a trauma-informed way means I recognise the impact trauma can have on a person's wellbeing and presentation. I work to ensure a feeling of safety and stabilisation, which might involve psycho-education and developing grounding techniques, so clients feel physically and psychologically safe within therapy.
Yes, I work with neurodivergent clients, including autistic clients and clients with ADHD. This is about recognising the uniqueness of the neurodivergent individual, through the use of inclusive language and by recognising the challenges that can be faced navigating a neurotypical world.
